The famous Farm Life Quote I remember always when I am at my farm
“Do what you love to do, and be around things that make you smile. The cows make me smile every day.”
The life in Farm can’t be explained, it can only be felt. There is a feeling of bliss, even if you just sit in front of crops. I love soil, love animals and love crops. I like to observe each organism whether it’s minute or large, there is uniqueness in their behavior. There is so much to learn in Nature. We should not disturb or change the course of it. Life will be simple when you go with Nature.
I have lived my entire life in big cities, the mega concrete jungles now. Bengaluru was a garden city when I was a kid, now there are only countable trees. The question keeps on ringing in my head, where are we heading to? The answer always is a “Towards Disaster”.
I returned back from States in May 2014. I was working as a normal engineer at Silicon Valley. Comforts were over my imagination but there was always something missing. My heart was not in sync with my thoughts. I came back to India in search of my soul.
I remember when I was a kid, I used to love watching NatGeo and always happy to go with dad(Veterinarian) for farm visits. I tried doing the same, started to visit friends farms. Still, I was not satisfied with the way farming practices were carried. A lot of pesticides and loads of fertilizers were given to Crops. This is quite against the way I imagined.
We are feeding crops chemicals and indirectly we are fed with the same. So are we killing ourselves? Is it self-murder? I was still searching for the right answer. Then, fortunately, I met two legends Subash Palekar Ji and Narayana Reddy Sir. I consider both of them as Gods. They respect mother earth, no chemicals, mixed cropping, even don’t wish to disturb the microorganisms in the soil. Treat Indian Cow as a holy mother. I respect people who respect animals, so that’s the point.
Two legends really inspired me to take up farming. I did spend enough time to learn. Took training on how to do farming. Though my ancestral property was lacking water, they inspired me to take that as a challenge to showcase farmers that even with less amount of water you can get a good yield.
My Dad( Dr. Sreenivasa Reddy) and Mom (Rajeshwari) are the true inspiration for this project. I have put all my thoughts, all my efforts to make this a model farm. Though I am doing the consultation to farms locally, some agree to follow Chemical-free farming but some don’t. This is the main reason for the model farm, to show it is possible.
Learn Natural Farming is a website shows how to practice Natural farming and also adding my experiences. The path I have chosen is tough, but I want to prove all skeptics that Chemical farming is harmful and non-economical too.
I will be updating here once in two weeks on my farming progress. Keep following and support Natural farming.
Below is the image of my farm. The farm is not used for more than 40 years. It has become barren, all the top fertile soil is washed away.
Though I do not recommend the heavy machinery in any farm, this situation was inevitable. As my farm was filled with 10-foot weeds, I wanted to get rid of them.
Making holes for sowing Horticulture plant and forest trees. I recommend at least 15 percent of every farm to grow local forest trees. One acts as the wind blocker and second, it helps to get rains.
Isn’t it beautiful? The farm life is awesome. We should strive to make our farm self-sustained.
Dad is a great supporter of my all ventures. Though he knows this is a tough journey. He believes in the cause. We are here to help farmers to become self-sustained. NO more chemicals to farm, no more debts and finally no more farmer suicides.
In the process of making the world a better place to live. (Varkey Valiadeth – JEMS principal). One more legend who helped in building a solid character in me.
