The Gangatiri cattle breed is a significant cattle breed that is dual-purpose. It is an indigenous breed of cattle from India which is increased for purposes and for milk production.
The strain is known to be originated in the area across the banks of the Ganga river and sections of Bihar state. It’s a really important dual-purpose breed of cows in North India.
The total population of the Gangatiri cows has been reduced recently. It is also known as Eastern Hariana or Shahabadi. Currently, a primary breeding tract of the breed comprises the Bhojpur district of Bihar state and Ballia, Ghazipur, Mirzapur and Varanasi districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Gangatiri cattle are beautiful animals with white or gray color. Both bulls and cows have horns.
And their horns are moderate in size and appear from the aspect of this survey behind and above eyes in external and curving up and inwards ending with pointed tips.
They have a prominent forehead which is wide and straight using shallow groove in the center. The color of eyelids, muzzle and these hooves are usually black.
The normal body height of the mature bulls is roughly 142 cm at the withers and about 124 cm for the cows.

The Gangatiri cows are double purpose animals. They’re increased for draught purposes and also for both milk production.
Gangatiri cattle are creatures and they’re famous for their good draftability. They are kept in open or thatched housing system near the farmer’s home.
Concentrate feeding or balanced is rarely observed and the animals are kept for grazing 6 to 8 hours in a day.
Breeding in most of the animals is through natural mating. Huge herds are maintained in the Diyara, the region adjacent to the river Ganga and the herd size varied from 2 to 150 creatures. Most of the farmers keep a set of the bullock and 2-3 cows.
The population of those Gangatiri cattle in their breeding tract was estimated at approximately 67,000. Due to this fantastic draught capacity and dairy production, the strain has contributed to the livelihood of the people in it is native location.
The cows are excellent milkers, and generally, a cow could produce around 1050 kg of milk per lactation. Although their milk production may fluctuate from 900 to 1200 kg. Their milk is of really good quality comprising about 4.9 percent of butterfat content, varying from 4.1 to 5.2 percent.
