The Maremmana cattle are an extraordinarily strong breed of cattle that are reared from the Maremma, a former marshland area in southern Tuscany and northern Lazio in central Italy.
They are raised in the states of Rome Grosseto and Viterbo. Origins of the Maremmana cows are unknown.
Maremmana Cattle breed information
Maremmana cattle are medium sized animals generally with gray color. The cows are milder and the bulls are darker than the cows, especially.

Maremmana Cattle benefits
The Maremmana cows were previously employed as a draught animal, chiefly in agriculture and forestry.
But today the breed is mostly raised for meat production purposes. The cows are also good for making milk for the calves.
The Maremmana cows are incredibly robust breed of cows. They’re animals that are hardy and strong. The cows can be for supplying milk good and have a udder.

Some sources suggest that the breed descends in the Bos taurus macrocerus of which archeological evidence is preserved from the Etruscan remains of Caere and Vetulonia.
Other people suggest that the Maremmana breed is an immediate descendant of these Asiatic grey cattle (others still assert the breed descends directly in the aurochs, Bos primigenius primigenius).
Big herds of these Maremmana cattle were increased in the malarial marshlands of the Maremma for centuries.
And they have been herded from the butteri, the region’s herdsmen. They so were raised and were mainly utilized as a dual purpose creature for the production of beef and as a breed.
But because of the mechanization of agriculture after the Second World War number of those animals decreased rapidly. A total of 157,387 creatures were recorded in 1956. But the number decreased to a total of 8812 creatures in 2006.
A herdbook for your strain was started in 1935. There have been a total of 9801 animals recorded in the herd publication.
