The Parthenais cattle are a meat cattle breed by the Deux-Sèvres départment of western France. It originated in the center of France, around the boundaries of Brittany.
The strain was named after the Parthenay town, which had been a significant cattle market throughout the Middle Ages.
Parthenais cattle breed information
Parthenais cattle are big animals with gold-brown hair color. Both bulls and cows usually have horns and their horns are completely shaped.
They have eyes, muzzle and legs. However, hooves their nose and tail are black. Bulls stand about 145 cm tall along with the cows about 135 cm.
The bulls weigh about 1150-1250 kg. And the normal bodyweight of these cows is about 700-900 kg.
Parthenais cattle benefits
The Parthenais cows were formerly utilized as dual-purpose creatures and were used for both milk and meat production. But they are used mainly as a meat cattle breed.
Parthenais cattle are strong and hardy creatures. The strain was used for generating quality milk which was used for producing butter and other milk products. The animals were used for work before.
They have excellent disease-resistance abilities. They have immune systems and they’re not likely to fall ill to the bovine disorders or ailments.
The cows possess excellent mothering abilities and are exceptionally fertile. The calves are hardy and very lively and grow relatively faster.
The Parthenais cattle are now used for meat production and they are excellent for producing meat that was excellent tasting.
The Parthenais cattle are thought to be among the earliest French cattle breeds together with documents going back into the start of the Century.
And the second portion of this 19th century was the golden age of the strain.
A French herdbook for the breed established in 1893, along with also the Canadian herdbook was created 100 years later.
Presently the breed is available in a number of countries throughout the world.
It’s been exported into Canada, the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, and some other countries.
