The Punganur cows which are known as Punganur dwarf cows originated from the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh in southern India.
The Punganur cattle are primarily used for milk production. Their milk include high fat content and rich.
The breed is among the world’s tiniest humped cattle breeds.
Punganur cows are smaller sized animals and are white and light gray in color. Sometimes they are also able to be light brown to dark brown or reddish in color.
They have a wide forehead and short wings. Their horns are crescent-shaped and often lose curving backward and forwards in bulls and forward in cows.
The height of this Punganur cattle is about 70-90 cm.
The bulls on average weight around 225 kg. And bodyweight of the cows is around 115 kg.

Punganur cattle are very hardy animals. They are known for their quality milk production.
Their milk has a high-fat content in comparison with the milk of different cattle breeds. Typically, cow’s milk contains 3 to 5% of the content.
But Punganur cow’s milk contains approximately 8 percent of fat content.
The strain is highly drought-resistant and may survive on dry fodder.
The cows on average can produce about 3-5 kg of milk per day. And they have a daily feed intake of 5 kg.
It’s named after the city of its origin, Punganur, at Chittor district located in the south-eastern suggestion of the Deccan Plateau.
The Punganur cattle breed is on the point of extinction, with a couple of animals remaining. And these remaining creatures have been reared mainly on the Livestock Research Station, Palamaner, Chittoor district, attached to SV Veterinary University.
The strain isn’t officially known as a breed because there are just a few animals staying. Punganur cows are mainly known for their very substantial quality milk which is rich in medicinal properties. Today the breed is really rare.
